How Do I Arrange a Blood Test?
The quickest and most efficient way of organising a blood test is via The Lister Hospital using the weblinks found below. Not only will getting your blood test done at The Lister Hospital normally be quicker for you, it means that patients who may be unable to drive (e.g. frail or disabled patients) will have better access to local services. You may need to have fasted before a blood test (more information on this below).
For adults and children aged 11 years or older (non-fasting)
For children under the age of 1 year: Please call Bramble Ward on 01438 286 315
How Do I Know Whether I Need to Fast?
Often the clinician who has arranged the blood test would have told you but there are certain tests that you would often fast for. These include blood tests to check your cholesterol and fat levels (lipid profile), for which you would need to fast for 12-14 hours prior to the test (for example, if you have a blood test at 10am, you would only be able to consume water with no food or other drinks from 8pm the previous evening).
Examples of fasting blood tests are as follows:
Cholesterol and fat levels (lipid profile): At least 12 to 14 hours of fasting
Fasting glucose: At least 8 hours of fasting
Glucose Tolerance Test (GGT): 8 to 14 hours of fasting
